What is a Chilled Water System?
A chilled water system is water that is purposefully made colder, often with the use of a chiller, to be used in part of a mechanical system. Chilled water cooling is not very different from a typical air conditioning system - with chilled water systems, the water is pumped through an air handler, which in turn captures the heat from the air and then disperses it throughout the designated area to be cooled. The chilled water circulates through a "chilled water loop" and through coils located in air handlers.
Chilled water systems are best used in hotels, or buildings where each room, or area's cooling system needs to be controlled separately.
