What is an Ice Storage system?
Ice storage is the process of using ice for thermal energy storage, commonly stored in ice banks.
The most commonly used form of this technology can be found in chilled water systems of large buildings. Air conditioning systems, especially in commercial buildings, are the biggest contributors to peak electrical loads during hot weather.
In this application, a standard chiller runs at night to produce ice. Water then circulates through the ice during the day to produce chilled water that would normally be the chiller's daytime output.
An ice storage system minimizes the costs of running the chillers nearly 24 hours a day. This proves to be a very efficient and cost effective system.
